Zeitgeber is a German word that, loosely translated, means “synchronizer.” The project links together two well-known purveyors of experimentally-tinged techno. Speedy J, real name Jochem Paap, is a veteran producer whose celebrated career stretches back more than three decades. Lucy is the nom de techno of Italian-born and Berlin-based Luca Mortellaro, one of the genre’s most exciting and ambitious DJ/producers who has built an imprint (Stroboscopic Artefacts) and personal discography that has established itself as one of techno’s finest.
Both artists are known to make some of the most forward-thinking techno around, but Zeitgeber sees them pushing together even further into uncharted territories. Zeitgeber started back in 2013, with a critically acclaimed self-titled album release on Stroboscopic Artefacts that launched the duo on to the headlines of key clubs and festivals. Speedy J and Lucy’s back to back sets are typically extensive and immersive, as experienced by those who managed to attend any of their sold out performances at hugely influential dancefloors like the ones of Berghain, Goa Club, Throuw and Concrete to name a few. After a 5 years hiatus, 2019 sees a big comeback of the project with an album-long double 12-inch release for Speedy J’s STOOR project, another EP coming on the cutting-edge Totem Series on Stroboscopic Artefacts and a new touring schedule in selected venues.
