Few musicians in the underground scene have had the impact of Len Faki over the course of
his more than two-decade career. As an original Berghain resident, he has become one of the
most in-demand artists worldwide, performing everywhere from intimate clubs to the biggest
festival stages. His sets are never just played to the crowd but shared with them, an adventure
built on intensity, intuition and passion.
As a label head, Faki founded Figure in 2003, which has since grown into one of techno’s
most respected imprints with more than 150 releases. Driven by a desire to release his own
music at a time when other labels weren’t taking it, he first used Figure as a personal outlet
before opening it to other artists. Since then, the label has welcomed a wide range of talent,
established names such as Jeroen Search and Kirilik (KiNK) as well as rising voices including
Adiel, Iglo and Arthur Robert. For Faki, supporting new talent remains a matter close to his
heart, and Figure continues to set standards for versatility, excitement and cutting-edge techno
well into its third decade.
Born in Stuttgart, Faki moved to Berlin in 2003, just as the city was cementing its reputation
as Europe’s techno capital. After playing a few times at Ostgut, the club that would soon
evolve into Berghain, he was invited to play at its opening night and to become one of its first
residents. At the time, he could not have imagined the significance of that moment, yet it
marked the beginning of one of the most important residencies in techno history.
His own productions are countless and acclaimed. Standout releases like “Rainbow Delta /
Mekong Delta” (Ostgut Ton), “My Black Sheep” (Figure) and “Odyssee II” (Podium) earned
him top places in Groove magazine’s polls for Best Track and Best Producer, a recognition
that elevated his international profile. He was later celebrated for his world-renowned remixes
such as “Wide Open” and “Stranger to Stability” to only name a few of them.
In 2020, Faki introduced the Open Space compilation series on Figure, curating ambient and
electronica from artists such as John Beltran, Sebastian Mullaert and Laraaji alongside his
own productions. With Open Space, he once again expanded the label’s horizons, highlighting
the broader spectrum of electronic music and giving artists a stage to showcase different
creative sides.
The year 2023 marked a milestone: the release of his long-awaited debut double album
“Fusion” on Figure. Spanning 24 tracks, it offers a 360-degree portrait of Faki’s sound,
blending techno, house, ambient and broken beat. Tracks like “Temple” and “Sexuality”
embody its balance between driving peak-time energy and melodic, emotional depth, while
pieces like Halide Parts 1 & 2 reveal his ambient and deeply personal side. The album also
arrived as a limited vinyl box, featuring never-before-seen multi-colored vinyl pressings,
further underlining its special character. That same year, he founded a new lable,
Hardspace. A 2.0 evolution of LF RMX. With Hardspace, Faki takes his long-standing tradition
of edits and remixes into new territory, reworking tracks from artists such as
Helena Hauff, Sven Väth and Sound Stream. These reinterpretations preserve the essence
of the originals while reshaping them with his trademark sonic precision and power.
Hardspace reflects both a personal and technical evolution, a huge leap in his approach
to timbre, frequencies and sound aesthetics.
More than twenty years into his career, Len Faki remains as active and forward-looking as
ever. Touring extensively, spending countless hours in the studio and constantly seeking new
forms of expression, he shows no sign of slowing down. With curiosity as his driving force,
fans can be sure that much more is yet to come from one of techno’s most vital and enduring
artists..
